Fay Mary Flanary, of Belchertown, Massachusetts, devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away February 14. Born to the late Mary E. Carbonneau (née Sands) and Armand H. Carbonneau, Fay was a cornerstone of a large, loving family with deep Massachusetts roots.
A woman of profound faith, Fay served as a devoted Deaconess in the United Methodist Church. Her life was a testament to the values of service and compassion; she dedicated herself to nurturing the spiritual well-being of her congregation and providing selfless care to her community.
Outside of her ministry, Fay enjoyed a long and meaningful career with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. A loyal friend and colleague, she formed lasting bonds throughout her years of professional service to the Commonwealth. Her warmth and dedication extended into every circle she touched, and she will be remembered fondly by the many friends she made throughout her career.
Above all else, Fay’s greatest joy was her family… and especially her granddaughters, who were truly her world. She was deeply involved in their lives, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on, celebrate their accomplishments, or simply spend time together. Whether it was attending events, sharing traditions, offering guidance, or creating quiet moments of connection, she poured her heart into being their grandmother. Her love for them was constant, unwavering, and evident in every story she shared and every prayer she lifted on their behalf.
Fay lives on through her family: her daughter, Micha Flanary and granddaughters, Jasmine and Kaleigh Cooper; her son, Michael Flanary and his wife Emily Pettit and granddaughter, Ella Flanary. Her family’s reach is vast, stretching from Massachusetts to Ohio and California, and as far as Dubai. She is also survived by her aunt, Harriet A. Gobi, along with many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 27 from 10am-11am at Hope United Methodist Church with a service at 11am. Burial is private. Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the church.
