Maureen C. (Chagnon) Matulewicz, 80, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born on March 5, 1945, in Holyoke, MA, she was the cherished daughter of Charles and Kathleen (Grummell) Chagnon, both of whom predeceased her. In her early years, Maureen grew up in Chicopee and later established her home in Westfield for the past 49 years. For many years, she was a notary and worked at Kanzaki Paper Company in Springfield in 1989. Maureen later served as the executive secretary at Pinsley Railroad in Westfield from 1999 until her retirement, where she was known for her professionalism and dedication. She was the beloved wife of William Matulewicz, who passed away before her in 1997. Together they raised two daughters, Kathleen Wilkerson (Jamie) and Ellen Benson (Christopher), who will carry on her legacy. Maureen was a proud grandmother to William Wilkerson and Eli Benson, who brought her immense joy. In addition to her family ties, Maureen was a vital part of her community. She actively participated and took great enjoyment in the Totally Fun Fitness Class at the Westfield Senior Center and cherished her passion for travel. Maureen enjoyed spending time working outdoors on her lawn at her home. She is also survived by her three brothers, Philip, Richard, and Kevin Chagnon, who will hold her memory dear. A visitation in her honor will take place on Tuesday, February 25, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 noon at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, followed by a service at noon. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Maureen's memory to the Baystate Health Foundation, American Lung Association, or the American Heart Association, as a tribute to her caring spirit and love for helping others.
