With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our family patriarch, Glenn “Pike” William Simes, Jr., who left us with broken hearts on February 16, 2026, at the age of 77 years young.
Piker (to his friends and family) was born in Austin, Minnesota, on October 15, 1948, to Glenn Baldwin Simes and Evelyn Alberts Simes (later Scheer). He lived a life defined by unconditional love and devotion to his family. Loyalty, integrity, honor, and faith in God were the cornerstones of his foundation.
Family was everything to Pike. His wife, Linda Lou, was his queen. For sixty years, he cherished her and took excellent care of the large family they raised together. He made every single member of his family feel his love, guidance, encouragement, and acceptance. He never missed a day of work, rising at 4 a.m. with a smile on his face and a paintbrush in hand. His favorite saying was “Hello, World!” as he rushed to the warehouse to patiently wait for his son and partner-in-crime, Jerry, to arrive and start the next job. He taught us what good looks like in a man — a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, and a friend. He was truly one in a million.
By day, Pike was a painter. By night, he sponsored a men’s softball team (aptly named Pike’s Painting). He also collected parking for 40 years at Venice High School; 27 of those years with long time friend Steve Kozel. He never missed an opportunity to tease, give a smile, or offer encouragement.
Glenn “Pike” Simes leaves behind a large family who will all miss him dearly. He is survived by Linda Lou Simes, his first love and wife of almost 60 years; his four children: Holly Waggoner; Jerry Simes (Kim); Terry Simes (Gretchen); and Heidy Brittain (Todd); 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Jerry Lee Simes (Cheryl). He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Gail Marie Lorenzen (Dennis); and one granddaughter, Shannon Brittain and sister-in-law Mildred Simes. He also leaves behind his best friend and loyal dog, Joy.
The service will be held at First Baptist Church of North Port at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026. A luncheon will be provided immediately following the celebration of life.
Please join us as we celebrate this life well lived. Feel free to share your favorite story, memory, or kind word regarding this amazing man.
