John W. Spangler, age 87, of Lake Mills, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026, in his home, surrounded by family. He was born on July 25, 1938, in Jefferson, WI, son to the late Albert and Viola (Heileman) Spangler. He would graduate from Jefferson High School in 1956.
John graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor's degree. During this time, he was a member of the U-W Madison marching band. John would marry Elizabeth Spangler on June 23, 1962, at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Mazomanie, WI.
John was a proud United States Army Veteran, earning an honorable discharge. He was able to go on the Honor Flight on October 5, 2024, in remembrance of his service to our country. John was also a member of the Jefferson American Legion band.
John was in agriculture for the entirety of his life, spending his days as an owner/operator of Spangler Seedtech, Inc. John was an active member of the Wisconsin Crop Improvement Association. He was named citizen of the year in 2023 of Jefferson.
John also served on the F&M Bank board association and was a charter member of Jefferson County Agri-Business Club.
John is survived by his sons Steven (Patty) Spangler of Sonora, CA Richard "Rick" (Wendy Moll) Spangler of Raleigh, NC, Jeffrey (Meredith) Spangler of Lake Mills. 5 grandchildren Michael Spangler, Sarah (John) Fansler, Amanda Spangler, Avery Spangler, Caleb Spangler. 2 great grandchildren Ava and Jack Fansler.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (October 16,2015), daughter Kristen, along with other family members David, Marion, and Earl.
Visitation will take place on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home, 900 W. Racine St. Jefferson, WI 53549, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Funeral Procession to follow visitation to St. John Baptist Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors taking place.
