Rebecca Annette Hubert Born: May 20, 1958 Died: Feb. 23, 2026
Rebecca Hubert spent her final days on this earth in the company of beloved family members, lifelong friends, gentle caregivers, her pet parakeets and the music of Neil Diamond at Angela’s Assisted Living in Tucson. She died at age 67 from complications of multiple sclerosis, which she battled for more than four decades. Becky was one of five children of the late Fred and Anne Hubert. She lived in Tucson her entire life, attending Catholic school at St. Cyril of Alexandria and later singing in the adult choir at church. As a child, she was an animal whisperer and collector. She raised flocks of pigeons, naming each one based on its color and personality. She brought home tropical fish, gerbils, hamsters, and even an ornery duck named Owaso. She sat patiently beside pet cats while they gave birth. She dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. While a student at the University of Arizona, she was stricken down by MS. The disease was relentless, but she persevered, ultimately earning her degree in Clothing and Textiles. Upon graduation, she worked in the University’s interlibrary loan department, locating and distributing books, articles, and other materials to individuals and agencies across the country and beyond. In her spare time, Becky loved creating elaborate costumes for Halloween, and designed and sewed dresses, jackets and other clothing for herself and her sister. She enjoyed writing poems to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions. She took pride in her Arizona Wildcat sports teams, sporting their colors and cheering their victories. Throughout her medical ordeal, Becky leaned on her faith and her strong human and animal connections for support and always maintained a positive attitude and a sense of humor. She was very fond of members of Angela’s staff, and over the years comforted roommates who were making their transition to their next life. To her many loved ones, she was the embodiment of strength and love. In recent years, Becky talked about reuniting with her family members and former pets in heaven. May she rest in peace and finally be free of pain and disability in paradise.
Becky is survived by her brother David (Genie), brother Steve (Terri) and sister Cindy, and best friends Patty and Almah Jury, Carmen Duarte, and Lynn Palmer, as well as nieces Jessica and Darcy and nephew David Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Kevin.
The Hubert family wishes to thank the team of specialists at Harmony Hospice who cared for Becky with dignity and grace during her final months.
A Catholic mass will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026 at 10 AM at St. Cyril of Alexandria Roman Catholic Church, 4725 Pima St. in Tucson.
A celebration of Becky’s life will follow at a location to be announced at the service.
