Cyril Henderson Weagle age 94 of Chico, California went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 17, 2026.He was born September 29, 1931, in Cleveland Ohioto Cyril H. Weagle and Edith Irene (Taylor) Weagle.He was the first child of five children. His brothersand sisters were William (Josephine), Janet, Gordon(Jayne), and Joyce (Joseph Rodriguez). Cy earned a biology degree from Denison University in 1953 and then joined the U.S. Army to serve during the Korean Conflict. After the military, Cy returned to Ohio State and Northwestern University where he received a master’s degree in Hospital Administration in June 1959. Cy worked his entire career serving others in not-for-profit hospitals eventually retiring from Enloe Hospital in 1995.

 

While at Ohio State, Cy met the love of his life, Shirley Christy. Cy and Shirley were married for 64 years. Cy was a dedicated husband and father. Together they raised six children, 5 daughters and one son; LaDonna (Mathew Crane), Elizabeth, Karen (Craig Fleming), Julie (Eric Renfro), Robert (Susan), and Kristie (Rob Kehm). They loved spending time with their 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and traveled extensively to be part of their lives. Cy also always made sure the yard, pool and jacuzzi were ready for many family reunions in Chico. 

 

Cy was baptized into the Lord's family August 26,1965 and lived faithfully, quietly serving the Lord and others. Cy and Shirley were members of the church of Christ. Throughout their lives, they served many through hospitality and service. Their home was always ready for company. It was a place of worship and refuge for family and friends. In his 50’s, Cy became an avid athlete. He competed in 36 Ironman competitions as well as many biking and running competitions. He remained active the rest of his life, riding his motorcycle at age 89, skiing at 91, and riding his stationary bike at 94.

 

Cy was surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren when he passed. There will be a celebration of life for Cy on March 13, 2026 at the Chico Church of Christ on the corner of Lassen and Burnap. The celebration will be held at 2:00 PM and will be followed by a dessert bar. In lieu of flowers Cy has asked that donations be made to the Chico Church of Christ benevolence fund to assist those in need.

 

Cy was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, his parents, and three of his siblings.
