Larry graduated from Chicora High School (1959) in Charleston, South Carolina and Clemson University (1964) where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Following his graduation, Larry became a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force, stationed in Dayton, Ohio at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. After serving four years, he relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and worked for the Westinghouse Corporation, Nuclear Division. He spent his career with Westinghouse as a project manager, designing and building nuclear power plants in various domestic and foreign locations such as Taipei Taiwan and a two-year residence in Genoa, Italy. When Westinghouse restructured, Larry transitioned to Siemens Corporation where he worked in project management on combustion turbine generated power.
Larry retired in 2003, in Orlando, Florida. Several years later, he and his wife returned to South Carolina residing in Elgin. During his retirement years, Larry enjoyed his woodworking hobby, keeping his yard immaculate and he was an active volunteer. He assisted Kershaw County with their local and federal elections by repairing and maintaining voting equipment, he assisted people in completing annual tax returns through the AARP and he was a volunteer and prior board member for the Kershaw County Habitat for Humanities.
Larry was a devoted husband and father, community friend and partner and will be sorely missed.
