Kathy Osborne passed away on February 21, 2026, at the age of 71. Kathy was a strong, dedicated, hardworking woman who made her home in Elizabeth, Colorado.
Born in Yankton, South Dakota, on April 7, 1954, Kathy was the youngest of four children, with two sisters and one brother. She grew up in Yankton where she attended Yankton High School. After moving to Colorado, she attended Arapahoe Community College.
Kathy’s life reflected determination and an unwavering work ethic. She became the first female police officer in Cherry Hills, a milestone that spoke to her courage and steady resolve. She later worked in construction and went on to work for both the Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Post. An injury at the Denver Post led to an early retirement, after which she devoted the rest of her life to what became her greatest joy—her garden.
Kathy was a devoted mother and a provider, and her greatest pride was her only daughter, Michelle Peck. She also leaves behind her son-in-law Dave Peck and her four beloved grandchildren: Brandon Peck, Justin Peck, Amanda Peck, and Megan Peck.
She loved fishing and camping. In retirement, Kathy’s artistic spirit and love of the outdoors flourished. She enjoyed quilting, crafting, and baking—her Banana Bread, Thanksgiving Stuffing, and the Pink Salad that made her famous were shared with pride and remembered with affection. She painted in watercolor and oil, and lovingly taught her granddaughters to paint, passing along both skill and confidence.
Gardening was Kathy’s lifelong passion and, in many ways, her love language. She grew flowers from seed and, most recently, sold them to florists. She was involved with the Garden Club and took flowers to senior centers, caring deeply that others could experience joy through blooms and nature’s beauty. She even began a garden at Silver Heights, and Brookside Inn hoped she would start a garden club and tend her flowers there; however, she recovered and left before she was able to begin. Quiet and reserved in many settings, Kathy came alive when it came to her flowers—always hoping others would pause long enough to appreciate what she saw so clearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Chapel, 407 Jerry Street, Castle Rock, Colorado 80104, on April 6, 2026, at 1:00 pm. A Lite Reception will follow at the same location on April 6, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
