It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Flora Elaine Martinez, who passed away on February 22, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on June 16, 1947, to James and Vernell Mack in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Flora was a beloved sister, friend whose kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.
Flora was predeceased by her parents, James Mack and Vernell Mack Hunter, as well as her siblings Alice “Peggy” Carruth and Kenneth D Mack Sr. (Patricia), and nieces Crystal Mack and April Carruth. She is survived by her family: James Mack Jr. (Sylvia), Melissa Williams, Rosalyn Harrington, and Kevin Mack; nieces and nephews Benita Carruth, Alfred Cook, Cynthia Mack, McKenzie Bell, Kenneth Mack Jr. (Nikita), Taylor Mack; and many dear friends and extended relatives.
Flora devoted more than 40 years to nursing. She launched her career at the James Martin School of Nursing, earning her LPN in 1967. In 1972, she left Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia and took a position with Vista Volunteers in Seattle, Washington, serving Mexican migrant workers thanks to her fluency in Spanish. Eventually, Flora relocated to Woodburn, Oregon, where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 1984. Those years brought many cherished memories; caring for others was her greatest joy. That passion remained strong when she joined Salem Health, where she worked until retirement. Beyond nursing, Flora enjoyed music, dancing, and traveling, often spending weekends ballroom dancing with friends.
In 2013 Flora was contacted by Jehovah’s Witnesses where she learned beautiful bible truths. Her appreciation grew over time, and she held dearly what she learned. With time she eagerly shared her hope of living forever without sickness or death with anyone that would listen. She was not afraid of dying because of this hope. She knows she will be resurrected into a beautiful paradise on earth, and she couldn’t wait until she will be able build her 3-bedroom, 1 bath house!
A memorial service is scheduled for March 7, 2026, at 2pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 975 Mildred Ln, Salem, OR 97306. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Flora’s remarkable life and legacy.
Flora will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as her memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
