John Wesley Hosselrode, age 76, a lifelong resident of Williamstown, NJ, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026.
Legacy
John was born in Cumberland, Maryland, where he developed a lifelong love and passion for trains and the B&O Railroad. Inspired by his father, a proud retiree of the B&O, John became an avid collector of B&O memorabilia and cherished the history and heritage of the railroad that meant so much to his family.
Affectionately known as “Chief,” John was a proud United States Navy veteran who served his country with honor and dedication. He enlisted in November 1969 and faithfully served until his retirement in March 1993. During his distinguished career, he served aboard the USS Richard E. Byrd (DDG-23) and held the rank of Sonar Technician Chief Petty Officer (SGTC). John often shared stories of his years in service, reflecting the deep pride he felt in his Navy career. He concluded his military service as a Navy recruiter in Philadelphia, where he mentored and guided many young men and women toward their own paths of service.
Following his retirement from the Navy, John continued to build meaningful connections through his work with Prudential Insurance Company and later in sales at the Turnersville Auto Mall.
While John had a strong work ethic and a distinguished career, his greatest joy in life was being surrounded by his family and friends. He treasured time spent together, creating memories filled with laughter, storytelling, and love. His warmth, pride in his service, and deep devotion to those he loved will be remembered by all who knew him.
Family
Loving husband of Josephine "Josie" Hosselrode (nee: O'Boyle); devoted father of Lori Gallara (David) and Robert Hosselrode. Proud grandfather and "Pop" to Katrina Shutts (Joseph), Kara Criniti, Salvatore Gallara and Cheyenne Hosselrode.
