Obituary Mary Florez passed away in her home on the morning of October 31, 2020, at the age of 98. She was born Mary Perez on January 27, 1922, in Denver, Colorado. Mary grew up as the only girl in a household where she took care of her father and five brothers. As a girl, Mary loved to play sports, and it was a softball game that first brought her together with her future husband, Louis. After a long struggle to obtain the permission of her father, Mary and Louis finally were able to go to a movie together. They eventually married on December 6, 1941, in Denver. With the outbreak of war, Louis joined the Army, and Mary followed him first to Texas, then to Corvallis, Oregon, where their first child Ann was born. The Army then took them to Mississippi, where they lived until Louis was sent to fight in Europe in 1944, serving as a combat medic, When Louis shipped out, Mary returned to Denver. After the war, Louis returned to Mary in Denver. Their family eventually grew to include another daughter, Shirley, and a son, Louis Jr. Mary raised the children while Louis worked in a variety of jobs, eventually becoming president of Local 9 of the International Union of Operating Engineers. They eventually moved from Denver to Arvada, Colorado, where they lived for many years. Mary was an avid gardener, bowler (with a high score of 276) and seamstress, and she enjoyed many trips into the Colorado mountains camping and picnicking with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Over the years, she and Louis also enjoyed several trips to Hawaii and Mexico. Unfortunately, in 1979 Mary and Louis also suffered the untimely loss of their younger daughter, Shirley. Louis later died in 1988, after which Mary continued to live in Arvada for several years. In 2004, Mary moved to Colorado Springs to be closer to her daughter Ann and the family of Anns daughter, Mary. Mary spent her remaining years living in Colorado Springs. She is survived by her daughter, Ann, her son, Louis Jr., five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Services Memorial Service Saturday November 7, 2020 2:00 PM Cappadona Funeral Home 1020 E.
