Shirley Ruth Schnobrich Panagini
April 11th, 1929 - November 21st, 2015
Obituary Shirley Ruth (Oswald) Schnobrich Panagini died November 21, 2015 in Colorado Springs. She was born April 11, 1929 in New Ulm, Minnesota to Delbert Oswald and Ruth Marie Hummel. Shirley moved to Dayton, OH in 1942 then Chevy Chase, MD in 1944, returning to New Ulm to stay with her maternal grandparents, August & Anna (Dietz) Hummel, and graduating from New Ulm High School in 1947. She did live a short stint on Staten Island, NY with her parents before returning, once again, to New Ulm to marry her first husband, Thomas E. Schnobrich, August 7, 1948. Together they had three children whom they raised in New Ulm with many grandparents and lots of family. In 1956 the family moved to Casper, WY for health reason, then again moved to Security, CO in 1957. She worked at the Garths & The Chanticlear Restaurants waitressing and hosting while taking night classes for secretarial training, landing her a position with the El Paso County Administration offices in the Vehicle Licensing Dept. In 1959 she was employed by Looart Press and was the secretary for Orin Loo and Miriam Loo for Current, Inc., and sons Dusty and Gary Loo. As Looart and Current grew she was eventually transferred to and became the supervisor of the Customer Service dept. In the early 1980s she moved to the Marketing Dept. so she could spend more time with her husband, Tom, at home. She retired in 1985. Being a long time resident of this area she knew every street, park and the citys history; and loved long drive through the mountains, as well as traveling abroad. Her travels include visiting Victoria, British Columbia, Banff, Canada, San Francisco, New York City and Hawaii with Tom. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters Society and a parishioner at Holy Apostles Catholic Church. It was there that she and Louis met, at the 'Solos' group at that church. There was an empty seat next to Shirley where Louis chose to sit there. It was there that they found out that they had both worked for so many years at the same company 'Deluxe Check Printers' (Shirley with Current) - Louis in New Jersey and Shirley in Colorado. Louis Michael Panagini married Shirley Ruth Schnobrich on August 28, 1999 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church. Their theme was 'Run With Your Dreams.' Shirley was an avid reader of fiction novels, a great cook, loved the classic black & white movies, and in the last 15 years learned watercolor, which she picked up on pretty quick with having enjoyed pencil drawing as a child. Louis being the accomplished artist that he is, they visited art shows together, and Louis became Shirley's watercolor teacher. Louis and Shirley enjoyed their retirement together traveling to Argentina, Italy, Alaska, Maine, Vermont, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, and Wyoming. They enjoyed scenic car rides, steam R.R. Aspen foliage travel, and their beautiful chalet cabin in Divide, CO. They enjoyed dancing at the Broadmoor, eating at good restaurants, and an occasional football game with friends at the Air Force Academy. This last year, with Shirley's physical limitations, Shirley and Louis would do a crossword puzzle together every day. Shirley had a good life and was well taken care of by both of her husbands. She is survived by her husband, Louis M. Panagini; children, Judy A. Freese, Thomas M. Schnobrich and Lisa M. Townsend; stepdaughter, Susan P. McKeithen and her husband, Timothy; brother, Keith O. Oswald and his wife, Barbara; grandchildren, David M. Freese, Kari Ann (Freese) Senn, Jonathan K. Freese, Jerry R. Schnobrich ;18 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; step-grandchildren, Julie E. McKeithen and David W. L. McKeithen; and her very special God Daughter, Julie Hayes-Nadler. She was preceded in death by her parents, one great granddaughter, Kirsten Lee; one great-great granddaughter, Melia Danae; and a son in law, Kenneth W. Freese. The Schnobrich and Panagini families ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her honor to Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 4925 N. Carefree Circle, Colorado Springs, CO 80917.
