Obituary Ardys "Ardy" Kay (Thornburg) Dowd, 72, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2021, in Colorado Springs. Ardy was born in Conde, South Dakota, to Clyde and Lorene Thornburg. She was the fourth of five children. The family later moved to Wadena, Minnesota where she grew up. She met Raymond "Ray" Dowd while he was stationed at Wadena Air Force Station, and they were married August 5, 1967. Ardy and Ray had five children in four years, welcoming two sets of twins into the world. She had nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ardy is survived by her loving husband Ray; their daughter Raelynn Dowd; their daughter Jennifer (Robert) Harrison; their son Jeffrey Dowd; and their daughter Gwendolyn (Aaron) Egbert, her sister, Alice (Dave) Smith; and her brother, Joel Thornburg. She is preceded in death by her son, Gregory; her father, Clyde; her mother, Lorene; her brother, Burton; and her brother, Jack. Her favorite careers had been as a professional cake decorator, and as a School Bus Driver for at-risk kids for Widefield School District 3. In retirement, she took up jewelry-making and volunteering with the Sertoma Club and Fountain Valley Senior Center. She could be found at craft fairs and gun shows selling her jewelry, or playing cards, dominos, and bingo at the Senior Center and made many friends doing so. Ardy never met a stranger and made friends easily. The family is deeply grateful for and would like to thank everyone at Rocky Mountain PACE, Life Quality Homes, Brookdale Broadmoor, Memorial Hospital, and Abode Hospice. Burial will be at Pikes Peak National Cemetery following a small private service.
