Jacy Lee Gibbs, eldest son of Lee and Anita Gibbs born in Bremerton, Washington on August 31, 1943, died peacefully early July 27, 2009 in Nampa, Idaho with his wife by his side. Jacy was just diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer on June 24th. Jacy grew up following his dad's Navy career in Washington, California, Missouri, Virginia, Oregon and Idaho. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School and Oregon State University. While at OSU he met and married Ann Williams and they had 3 wonderful kids, Jay of Heppner, OR, Kenny of Hermiston, OR, and Carrie of Helix, OR. Ann and Jacy were divorced in 1977. Following graduation from OSU, Jacy went to work for the Soil Conservation Service in Oregon with whom he retired 31 years later in 1995. Jacy lived/worked in Corvallis, Burns, Canyon City, Lakeview, Prineville, Madras, Fossil, Pendleton and Canby. He also worked for the SCS in Idaho and Utah. During Jacy's career he worked in rangeland management and native plant materials where he made many special friends. Jacy met Keri Stratton in Pendleton in the spring of 1978. They were inseparable and were married in Eugene, OR. Jacy and Keri had many wonderful adventures together traveling through most of the United States, Antarctic, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, Falkland Islands, New Zealand and Uruguay. They had many fun camping trips with the kids and grandkids. After Jacy's retirement he formed Intermountain Rangeland Consultants, LLC with Dave Franzen which kept them both busy and out of trouble up until the time of his death. Jacy loved to hunt and fish. His eyes always glazed over in a trance like state as the hunting seasons approached. Jacy spent many years hunting with his best friends Dave, Bernie, Rich, Jim, Joe and Ralph for the mighty wapiti, and with Kenny and his family for deer. Keri and the kids all learned to love to fish and hunt as well. In the late 1980's, Jacy was part of the development teams for the Native Plant section at the Idaho Botanical Gardens in Boise and for the MK Nature Center. His latest pursuits have been in creating wildlife habitat at home and making juniper furniture and sagebrush art. Jacy was preceded in death by his brother, Rex, his parents, all of his uncles and all but one aunt. He is survived by his wife Keri; kids and spouses, Jay & Sue, Kenny & Chris, and Carrie & Joe Bennett; grandkids Garrett, Morgan, Dusty, Macy, Bob, Charmayne, Keegan, Heather and Maegan; great-granddaughter Addrienne; sister-in-law Kathy, niece Leah, and nephews Andrew and Ben. We would like to thank Doctors Rees, McKinnon, Snow, Cordum, Schultheiss, Sawyer and Pulver, and their wonderful staffs, St. Al's Cancer Care Centers in Boise and Caldwell, Horizon Home Health, St. Al's RMC and Nampa Care Center Transitions Unit. You are all the best! There will be a Wake to celebrate Jacy's life on Saturday, August 29th at the Wilder side of Homedale Gibbs estate. Condolences may be submitted at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com.
