Zachary Austin Short
June 18th, 1990 - February 15th, 2018
Zachary A. Short Zachary A. "Zac" Short passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, surrounded by family at HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was 27. Born in Phoenix on June 18, 1990 to Richard and Judith (nee Austin) Short, he moved to Illinois with his family in 1997, and graduated from Minooka Community High School in 2008. After high school he returned to the place of his birth to attend Arizona State University, where he studied in the Digital Culture program in the School of Arts, Media and Engineering. In addition to his passion for digital media, he co-founded and operated an apparel printing business, and worked in various capacities in the restaurant industry. He was also an avid disc golfer and a loyal Chicago Cubs fan. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends, particularly his younger brother Alexander and his many cousins. He will be remembered for his constant smile, and for his huge heart and willingness to help anyone he could. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Judith, and his brother, Alexander, all of Shorewood, Illinois; his grandmother, Eva M. Short of Winterset, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Willard J. Short, William E. Austin Jr. and Geraldine A. Austin; and his uncle Steven Allmandinger. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 2212 McDonough St., Joliet, Illinois 60436. Directly following the mass, the family will receive guests at Zac's Celebration of Life from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Barber and Oberwortmann Horticultural Center, 227 N. Gouger Road in Joliet, Ilinois. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Zachary's name. Online condolences can be given at www.samfhaz.com.
