Steven Charles Watson
July 26th, 1947 - December 4th, 2016
Steven Charles Watson was born on July 26, 1947 in Safford, Arizona. Steve has led a generous and loving life, which has been cut too short due to some complications beginning with a burst appendix. After fighting massive infection for the past six weeks, Steve left this mortal life on December 4, 2016. Steve is survived by his wife, June Christine Nelson Watson, their 3 children (Steven, Jonathan, and Sonia), 13 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson (born just 3 days before Steve's passing!), and his sisters, Nelda Reay and Sylvia Allred. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Darrel. Steve grew up in Thatcher Arizona and attended Eastern Arizona College where he met his sweetheart at an activity. He eventually moved to Tucson where Steve attended Pima Community College and The University of Arizona where he studied to be an EMT and Aerospace Engineering. Eventually he decided a family was more important and he left school before graduating and married his sweetheart, Christine in February 1970. To support his family, Steve took a job out at the Asarco Open Pit Copper mine south of Tucson. Steve worked there for 39 years as a Heavy Equipment Operator and drove many of the equipment that helped the mine run. He used his EMT certification from college to volunteer as a member of the Pima County Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue and the and also served as a member of the mine rescue team at ASARCO. Steve served faithfully as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in his youth as missionary in the Brazil Mission from 1966 to 1968. He held many church callings over the years, but his favorite was the last few years he spent as a Temple Working in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Steve celebrated and enjoyed life and retirement with his sweetheart, and they have shared more than 46 years together. Steve often spoke of how much he loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He proudly told everyone about all of them, but especially his 13 grandchildren and that he loved every one of them. Steve will be laid to rest December 10th. Arrangements are being made under the direction of Adair Funeral Homes, Tucson, AZ. Steve will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
