Barbara Johnson Stevens, age 86, passed away on October 8, 2017, in Tucson, Arizona. She was born in Salisbury, Maryland, April 3, 1931, the oldest child of Samuel Quinton Jr. & Grace Johnson. She graduated from Wicomico County High School, Salisbury, MD and from the College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, VA. Barbara retired as a fifth grade science teacher from Delmar Elementary School in 1986. She maintained friendships with whom she worked with over the years. One group of retirees were known as "The Gypsies". She was a founder and lifelong member of "The Bridge Club", a very special group of ladies who have remained close friends through the years, some since elementary school. In the early 1990s she started to visit Tucson, AZ, She liked it so well she made it her second home. In recent years she was an avid Arizona Wildcats fan. Although she had physical limitations, her strong will always propelled her forward. She will remain a guiding light for many of us. She is survived by her daughter Cinda Tindall and her husband Joseph (Parsonsburg, MD), her grandson Steven Fenwick (Ocean Pines, MD), her brother Samuel Quinton Johnson III and his wife Marion (Easton, MD), two nephews, Quinn and his wife Julie Johnson and their family (Middletown, DE), and Troy Johnson (bivalve, MD). She also leaves behind many other family members and friends. Her friends Cheryl and Jerry Henrikson and Alejandra Gonzalez (Tucson, AZ) were loved by Barbara as family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, William Christian Schilling. A memorial service will be held in Tucson, AZ at Noon on Friday, October 13, 2017 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 9071 Old Spanish Trail at 12:00pm. A service will be held in Salisbury, MD at a later date.
