George Bigler passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at home in Jackson, CA at the age of 99. He was born July 28, 1922, in Portland, OR to his parents, George and Ruth (Rigby) Bigler. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served aboard the USS Charles Lawrence, a Naval Destroyer Escort named after his brother-in-law. While on leave in Washington D.C., he met the love of his life at a USO dance. Bob and Helen were married in 1946 following his discharge. As newlyweds, they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, where he worked for Western Electric. In 1949 they relocated to California, eventually settling in San Lorenzo, where they resided for 34 years and raised four children. Family camping trips in his home state of Oregon allowed him to share the many historical and beautiful sights he knew as a child. Road trips to the East Coast to visit Helen’s family were an opportunity he was able to provide his family to see much of the United States and create close relationships with distant relatives. Bob enjoyed boating and was an avid fisherman - everything from fly-fishing to deep-sea fishing. He served as a Boy Scout leader when his two eldest sons were in the Scouts, participating in back-packing and camping trips, and the 1962 World’s Fair in Seattle. Glenn, his oldest son earned the honor of Eagle Scout. Bob’s love of the outdoors became his legacy to his children. Bob retired after 37 years as an Engineer with Pacific Bell, headquartered in San Francisco. With the kids all grown, Bob and Helen purchased property in Pine Grove, CA in 1983. As a jack-of-all-trades, Bob built their dream home where they lived together until Helen passed away in 2012. They celebrated 66 years of marriage. Bob is survived by his son, Glenn (Patricia) of Mohall, ND; daughter Joyce Jones (Jim) of Jackson, CA; grandchildren, Keyton (Bridget), Tiffany Jacobs (Travis), Anastasia Seaburg, Adam Hall (Jennifer), and Daniel Hall (Heather); great-grandchildren, Kailey Ann Hall, Talen Courts, Addison Hall, Lauryn Hall, and Laraine Seaburg. Preceeded in death by his parents, George and Ruth; wife, Helen; sons, Les and Tim; brothers, Frank, Willie, and Bill; sisters, Irma Lucas and Ethel Hall. At the family’s request there will be no services at this time.
