Shirley Sonsteng of Sutter Creek, CA passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2020 in Jackson, CA at the age of 86 years. Shirley was born in McCool, MS on December 13, 1933 a daughter of the late Jackson and Clara (Eakin) Black. Shirley was one of Jehovah's Witnesses for more than 70 years and a member of the Sutter Creek congregation since the 1950's. She was a cook at the Chatterbox Cafe in Sutter Creek and would start making homemade pies and breakfast at 4:00 AM every day but Sundays. Her favorite companion was her cat Binky but she also loved the lost cats of the neighborhood, making sure they got spayed, neutered, and fed. Shirley loved cooking, gardening, and was known for the humming birds and golden finches that flocked to her yard. She was dearly loved and will be missed by many, including her beloved care givers Dick and Jenny Minnis. She was proceeded in death by her daughter, Debra Churich and her son Benji Churich of Sutter Creek; Her husband and love of her life Arnold Sonsteng; her brother Kenneth Black; her grandmother Elizabeth Eakins; and her dear friends, Dinah Reynolds Ordwald, of Stanton VA, and Mary Mistron of Sutter Creek. At Shirley's insistence there will not be any services. Condolences Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Hospice of Amador at PO Box 595, Jackson, Ca. 95642 or to the Jehovah's Witnesses at JW.ORG.
