Sarah "Grantes" Calvin
June 28th, 1918 - March 29th, 2012
Sarah "Grantes" Calvin passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 in Lodi at the age of 93 years. Sarah was born in Arkansas on June 28, 1918, a daughter of the late Peral (Burcham) and Ashley Baker. Grantes and her husband, Magie Brown Calvin moved to West Point in 1942. She worked as an LVN for 23 years at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital, the "Old Convalescent Hospital" and the "New Convalescent Hospital" in Jackson. Her last years prior to retiring in 1963 was in private nursing. Grantes was the mother of 6 children. Hard work was her favorite past time whether in her yard or cutting wood with Mage, as he was more commonly known. She loved to work. In her later years she enjoyed singing with staff at Wine Country Care Center. She loved her pets and always loved to spend time with company. Sarah is survived by daughters, Linda, and her husband, Fred Zeiter, of Lodi; JoAnn Angle, and husband, Kelton of Stockton; Rita Stolp and husband, Steven of Stockton; sons, Jim Calvin and his wife, Gerry of Wilseyville, John Calvin and wife, Joyce of Oakdale; 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Magie Calvin in 1988 and son, William Calvin in 1994. Friends are invited to attend a visitation Friday, April 6, 2012 from 10:00AM to 1:00 PM at Daneri Mortuary Chapel in Jackson, followed by a graveside service at 2:00 PM at West Point Cemetery in West Point.
