Eleanor Ann Harris

Eleanor Ann Harris passed away on July 22, 2020 at home in Walnut Creek. She was born December 22, 1930 and raised in San Francisco, California to Elmo and Loraine Meredith. She graduated from Lowell High School and obtained an AA from San Francisco City Junior College. Eleanor began her career working for the Wine Advisory Board of California in San Francisco in the accounting department. She enjoyed a fifty-year career working for several different companies including retail, carpeting, and landscaping. Eleanor met the love of her life at a USO dance at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco in 1951. They were engaged after 8 dates and were married for 67 years. They lived in Northern California and spent the last 34 years in Walnut Creek. She loved family trips especially to the mountains and holiday gatherings. Throughout the years she learned many creative home decorating skills and was very artistic. She was an avid reader and even after she lost her vision she continued to listen to books on tape. Playing board and card games were fun family times. El and Doug enjoyed travelling abroad, dinners out, and dancing. Eleanor is survived by her loving husband Douglas Harris, devoted surviving children Karen Chreston of Walnut Creek and Amy Cherry (Richard) of Hayward, and two predeceased sons; Allan Harris and Andrew Harris. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Audene Ouye (Jeff) of Fremont, Katie Chreston of Martinez, Myke Harris (Cintia) of French Camp, Chris Chreston (Angel) of Clayton, Meredith Harris of Savannah GA, Laura Christophe (Jake) of Clayton, Colleen Hilton (Isaiah) of LaJolla, and nine great grandchildren. Her generous, thoughtful, caring and wonderful personality will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 28th, 2020 at 10am at Oak Park Hills Chapel, 3111 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek, CA 94597.
