Melia Annette Allen
August 16th, 1956 - February 26th, 2012
MELIA ANNETTE ALLEN Melia Annette Allen passed from this existence to the next on February 26, 2012, after a long illness. Melia was born on August 16, 1656 to Lemoyne and Margaret Hugdahl, in Lancaster, Wisconsin. Melia's family moved to Southern California while Melia was a small child, and she attended primary and secondary schools there, graduating from Loara High School in 1974. In high school, Melia was very active in music, singing in top choirs and performing with the marching and concert bands. She also competed on the swim team. While attending Brigham Young University, Melia met her future husband, Daniel Larry Allen. They married a few months after his missionary service, on December 28, 1977 in the Oakland Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Melia studied music pedagogy and performance at BYU, and for almost three decades, was active in teaching private music lessons. An accomplished flutist, Melia greatly enjoyed sharing her knowledge and skills in helping her students. She also kept active in music as her children attended high school, and was a regular provider of assistance to the marching band. She could always be counted on to chaperone as choirs and bands toured, and greatly enjoyed her trip to Europe and multiple trips to Hawaii with music groups. Melia was also quite active in her church, and could be counted on to conduct the music, teach a lesson, or simply provide service to others. She greatly enjoyed these activities. Melia loved to travel, and was especially fond of cruising. Accompanied by friends and family, she and her husband enjoyed trips to Alaska, to Hawaii, and to several to the Caribbean islands. Her favorite trips, however, proved to be those to the islands of French Polynesia. Melia is survived by her husband, four children (Daniel Jeremiah Allen, Talia LaRue Terry, Tamara Joy Johnson, and Miriam Danae Allen). She is also survived by her father, sister (Lisa Noel Hugdahl), and eleven grandchildren (Trew, Teresa, Abigail, Micah, and Ryder Allen; Kathryn and Clara Terry; Riley, Melia, Lara, and Patrick Johnson). Melia will be greatly missed. She was an inspiration to her family and friends. A memorial for Melia will be held at the L.D.S. chapel in Oakley, California, on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, commencing at 10:00 A.M. All are invited.
