Lois M. (Scheuermann) Brennan, age 84, passed peacefully into the next life on November 17, 2018. She was born in New York City in 1934, and raised by her mother on Long Island, NY. At a very young age, she wanted to follow in a family tradition of service, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Lois served during the Korean War as a Hospital Corpsman, one of the first all-female Corpsman Hospital units. She was stationed in Jacksonville, FL, and those happy years in service were one of her favorite topics of conversation later in life. She was awarded both the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal during her time with the U.S. Navy. In 1958, Lois married Robert B. Brennan, the beginning of long and devoted partnership that spanned 60 years. Starting their lives together in Washington D.C., Lois began her career at GEICO while Robert was a student at American University. The couple later settled in Virginia Beach, VA, to raise their two beloved children. During the 35 years the Brennan family lived in Virginia Beach, Lois was a devoted member of St. Gregory's parish and volunteered regularly at the local hospital. Lois and Robert moved to Lady Lake, FL, in 1998, where Lois was forever delighted by the warmer climate. Lois's faith has always been very important to her, and they were dedicated attendees at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Lady Lake, FL. Lois and Robert were among the early adopters of The Villages community in La Reynalda, and they enjoyed the wonderful friendship and activity in that community for many years. Lois, in particular, always found immense joy in the meetings of the Red Hat Society and the Irish Club. She loved cruises and dinner theater outings, and was always ready to embark on a new adventure. Lois will be remembered most for her wonderful sense of humor, and the profound, unfailing kindness that she carried through her life. Anyone who knew her knew the unshakeable grace with which she handled all challenges, an easy-going positivity that would have been enviable if it wasn't so contagious. She is survived by her husband, Robert B. Brennan of Lady Lake, FL; her daughter and son-in-law, Laura J. and Gary Mayo of St. Augustine, FL; her son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Lucy Brennan of Doylestown, PA; her granddaughter and husband, Amanda and Brian Moroney of Ashland, MA; her grandson Scott Mayo of Portland, OR; her granddaughter Katherine Brennan, Esq., of New York, NY; her granddaughter Margaret Brennan of Washington, D.C.; her great-granddaughter, Reagan Grace Moroney; and her niece Lee Clifton of Jacksonville, FL. Lois is predeceased by her parents Joseph S. Scheuermann and Eva Catherine (Peppin) Scheuermann; and her brothers, Richard and Robert Scheuermann. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 at St. Timothy Catholic Church at 8:30 AM. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Program, 1-877-832-6997, www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
