Betty L. Mattox

Betty L. Mattox, 88, of Haines City, FL passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. Born on September 19, 1931 in Mobile, Alabama to William Jefferson and Lula (Tuma) Bryan. She moved to Florida in 1948 from Mobile, Alabama, worked at Publix North Gate Plaza as a deli associate for 30 years, until her retirement in 1987 and she was of the Baptist faith. Betty was a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge. Betty enjoyed fishing, cooking, quilting, and thrift store shopping. She loved family gatherings, dancing and collecting things like ceramic flowers, roosters, tea pot, plates, etc. Betty also enjoyed sitting on her front porch, in fact, it was where you would always find her. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 23 years, Leeroy “Pete” Mattox; son, Gregory C. Johnston; daughter, Pam Johnston; brothers, W.J. Bryan, Kenny Bryan, and Max Bryan; sisters, Leeanna Fields and Lillian Stewart; and stepchildren, Berryl Mattox and Diane Dial. Betty is survived by her sons, Mark (Tammy) Ginn of Haines City, FL, Carl (Lynn) Parrish of Dundee, FL, and Don (Pam) Mattox of Dade City, FL; daughters, Brenda (Bobby) Owens of Winter Haven, FL, and Donna Faye (Ernie) Hogue of Haines City, FL; brother, Harold Bryan of Lake Placid, FL; stepdaughter-in-law, Helen Mattox of Dundee, FL; twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at12:00 p.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. all at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Haines City, FL.
