Canby Funeral Chapel
Wendy Sue Hutchinson
March 7th, 1970 - August 21st, 2023
Wendy Sue Hutchinson, age 53, passed away on August 21, 2023, at her home in Canby, Oregon, after a lengthy battle with metastatic breast cancer. Wendy loved her family, cherished her friends, and true to her fighting spirit, lived each day to its fullest and never wasted time feeling sorry for herself or dwelling on her diagnosis. Wendy was born in Corvallis, Oregon to Gary and Kaye Zoodsma Meddaugh and joined her older brother, Mark. She attended local schools, graduating from Corvallis High School in 1988. Wendy met her future husband, Mike, in Corvallis while he was attending Oregon State University. After Mike’s graduation, they moved to Portland for more career opportunities. In June of 1998, they were married in an outdoor ceremony at the Oregon Zoo. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary just prior to her passing. Their daughter, Kaye Juliet, was born in 2003. Wendy loved being a mother and it was her greatest joy. She was the mother who helped make cards, with glue and glitter everywhere, giving her love and time. When the family moved to Canby for Mike’s job, she was able to volunteer at local theater and dance productions, helping with costumes, make-up, sets, stage management, etc. She taught herself to sew and made creative, detailed, and unique Halloween costumes and beautiful dresses for Kaye. Wendy made lasting friendships at all stages of her life. People were drawn to her warmth and laughter. Her smile, openness, and positive energy were contagious. Wendy and her brother, Mark, had a special sibling bond. Following Mark’s serious and life-changing pedestrian/car accident in 1997, Wendy helped in his recovery and continued to be an active a part of his life. Wendy loved good food and drink, spending time with friends and family, hiking, camping, being outdoors, the beach, and Jesse, her golden retriever. She loved concerts and was thrilled to be able to attend the Taylor Swift “Era’s Tour” concert with Mike and Kaye in Seattle, this past July. Wendy was an employee of Federal Express for more than fifteen years and most recently (almost ten years), was office manager for Signature Mobile Bottlers in Clackamas. She loved the work, her peers, her boss, the boys out in the field, and definitely the product (wine). In addition to her husband, daughter, and brother, other surviving members of her family include her father and step-mother, Gary and Kathy Meddaugh, step-sister Jennifer Richey, step-brother Jay Richey, father in-law and mother in-law Sam and Sandra Hutchinson, numerous nieces and nephews, and her best friend and dog, Jessie. Wendy was preceded in death by her mother, Kaye Zoodsma. Arrangements are being handled by Canby Funeral Chapel. A celebration of life is planned for early November. See details below.
