Gladys Bessie Stanford

Gladys Bessie Stanford, age 95, of Moore Haven, went to walk on that golden shore on April 12, 2016 in her daughter's home with her family at her side. She was born Dec. 23, 1920 in Riverview, FL, to James F and Bessie (Fussell) Sweat. She married James B. Stanford; he preceded her in death on October 17, 1995. She worked as a switchboard operator for United States Sugar Corporation for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and sister who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Gladys leaves behind three daughters: Janice Bamburg of Clewiston, FL Phyllis Butler of Columbus, GA and Sandra S. McClenithan of LaBelle, FL., one brother: James C Sweat of Riverview, FL and one sister: Velma Newman of Riverview, FL., eleven grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and many great-great grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by her son; Dale Broward Stanford who passed away on March 13, 2015. Celebration of Gladys' life was held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:00 am at Akin-Davis Funeral Home, LaBelle with Pastor Charley Watts officiating. Interment was in Ortona Cemetery, Moore Haven. Visitation was Saturday from 10a.m. at Akin-Davis Funeral Home, Clewiston, FL. Arrangements by Akin-Davis Funeral Home - Clewiston.
