Born January 24, 1928 in Roscoe, South Dakota, Oliver died peacefully surrounded by his family on May 22, 2008. Oliver was married 53 years to his loving wife and best friend, Regina; they resided in Tacoma for the past 44 years. After serving in the United States Navy for 2 years, Oliver began a 34 year career with the US Geological Survey, and retired as a Supervisory Hydraulics Technician. Ollie was a people person always surrounded by family, friends and co-workers. Oliver’s true source of joy and happiness came from his family. He was admired and loved by his children and grandchildren – he was an inspiration. His faith, care, and compassion for all were evident in every aspect of his life; his kind spirit always shined through. Ollie loved the outdoors, especially fishing and the community garden; even more than hooking worms and digging in the dirt, he enjoyed the conversations and friendships that grew. Oliver was an active member of his community and served in many ways. He was president of the Wright Park Foundation, a member of St Vincent De Paul, a Parishioner at St Patrick’s Church and served on the Parish Council. His passion for music and singing was shared with the group, The Funtime Singers. Oliver is survived by his wife Regina, daughter Paula Abalahin, her husband Oscar and their son Jaxon; son John, his wife Kathy and their children Josh, and wife Stephanie, Kelly, and Kevin; son Michael, his wife Elaine and their daughters Shawna and Erika; his brother Dennis, and his wife Linda; and numerous nephews along with countless friends and acquaintances. Oliver was preceded in death by his parents and sisters. Ollie’s friendly and sincere personality drew people toward him and everyone he met walked away with a smile. He will be missed. Oliver’s life will be celebrated with a funeral mass and reception on June 14, 2008 at 11:00am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, N 12th and J, Tacoma, WA. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Jaxon’s Cure, P.O. Box 152, Port Orchard, WA 98366. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial Center 253-566-1008
