Patricia Joanne Lamb Long-time Covington resident, Patricia J. Lamb, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2018 in her home of nearly 60 years. Patty was born July 26, 1932 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota to Ray and Evelyn Fehr, the eldest of three daughters. Her earliest years were spent on a farm outside of Wadena, Minnesota with her family and in town, during winters, with her sisters and her beloved Grandmother, Catherine Schiller. Her father became a machinist in WWII to help with the war effort, and that work had the Fehr family moving to Minneapolis, then to Enoka and finally, back to Wadena. While at Wadena High School, Patty was in the choir and played trumpet in the band. She loved ice skating on the local pond and was named “Winter Queen” in the county pageant. After graduation, Patty became a switchboard operator for the local phone company and related many times just how much she enjoyed helping to connect people in town and with folks from far away. The next opportunity for the Fehr family came with the growing aerospace industry out West. Once again the family packed up and, this time, moved all the way to Southern California. Santa Monica, with the sunshine and the warmth and the beach was a great adventure. Patty went to work for a bank, discovering her talent with numbers. She met and married her husband Clyde, bought a house and had 3 children. Patty wasn’t done relocating quite yet. Soon she was off with her young family to the Pacific NorthWest. It was beautiful and green and it was very much like Minnesota without the harsh winters. She loved it. Clyde and Patty purchased 3.5 acres in the small community of Covington, Washington and together, they built their “forever” home. Patty never wanted to move again. During the years that followed, Patty worked for local grocer, Johnny’s IGA, had another child, and created a little farm on the Covington property with animals, gardens, flower beds and orchards. Her home became the place to gather for wonderful meals, holidays and family celebrations. When her kids were older and off to college, she went to college too. Patty studied accounting and worked for several businesses, tending to their finances. She finished her accounting career doing the books for Covington Pharmacy. Patty was a very creative gal and exceptionally skilled in her artistry. She loved painting, gardening, photography and was especially talented with all forms of needlework. Patty knitted sweaters, crocheted afghans, quilted blankets, sewed and embroidered baptismal stoles and wedding dresses. When her grandsons came along, she gifted them with all kinds of Grandma Love by creating soft and colorful pajamas, caps, shirts, blankets and wonderful costumes that let their imaginations soar. As those grand-babies arrived, Patty helped with anything that was needed. She provided meals, encouragement, help with chores, gentle advice, childcare, patience and love. She was always there for all of her family. She was with her family when she passed. Patty loved her grandsons, Adam Field, Kevin Quigley, Austin Rist and James Lamb. She loved her children, Catherine Lamb Quigley, Michael Lamb, Steven Lamb and Ellen McVey. She loved her husband of 65 years, Clyde Lamb. With Clyde’s tireless efforts, devotion and love, Patty was able to remain in her beloved home. Patty never had to move again.
