Gladys Shook Root
September 4th, 1923 - September 7th, 2014
Gladys Shook Root, 91, of Englewood, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 7, 2014. She was born September 4, 1923 in Battle Creek, MI to George and Marguerite (Collins) Wiegand, and was the eldest of six children. Gladys graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1941. She retired from a career of over thirty years in insurance administration from Federal Home Life Insurance in Battle Creek in 1985. Gladys married Arthur Shook in 1943, and was a longtime resident of Bellevue, MI. They divorced in 1978. In 1987 she married Ferdell (Dell) Root of Grand Ledge, MI and Englewood, FL. Englewood became her permanent residence after Ferdell's passing in 1997. Gladys is survived by two daughters: Susan Shook of Englewood, FL and Sandra Wogomon of Midway, GA; a son-in-law: Sonny Bagwell; three grandsons: Josa Wogomon, Shannon (Chanda) Wogomon of Gainesville, GA and Brandon Wogomon of MI; a great-granddaughter: Alana Wogomon and great grandson: Ezra Wogomon; her sister: Judy Oteney of Marshall, MI; an aunt: Marie Wiesman of San Antonio, TX and several nieces and nephews. Gladys made friends easily. Her joyful smile will be missed by her many neighbors and friends. A private celebration of Gladys' life is planned at a later date in Englewood. To honor Gladys' memory, donations may be made to the Suncoast Humane Society, 6781 San Casa, Englewood, FL 34224 her name.
