Timothy Stephen Rohe – son, brother, and friend – died on Friday, January 31st at his apartment in Lexington, KY. He was 19 years old. Since he was young, Tim loved learning and tinkering. His passion for discovering how things work began with him taking apart and rebuilding old computers and grew into his later interest in pursuing computer engineering. Born on April 20, 2000 to Ronald and Vivian Rohe, both trained engineers, Tim was always known for his sharpness in physics and math and his love of discussing philosophy. By the time he was in high school, Tim was earning straight A’s in AP math and science classes and serving as a teaching assistant for AP Physics. Tim was a kind and helpful young man who spent many hours working with his older brother Daniel on construction projects and happily playing with his nieces and nephews. He was always quick to offer to help with any task. He loved to make goofy jokes and debate the latest political happenings or discuss the fine details of computer systems, and his knowledge of internet culture was second to none. In high school he was both an athlete and a scholar, competing on his school’s swim team and earning National Merit recognition his senior year. After high school he enrolled in college at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, where he was studying Computer Engineering. He was currently on leave from Vanderbilt after completing his freshman year. As a young man with great passion and a deep love of pondering the meaning and purpose of life, Tim also battled depression and substance use. He died as a result of a drug overdose just two months before his 20th birthday. Tim is survived by his parents, Ronald and Vivian Rohe, and his seven siblings: Hannah Mastbergen, Daniel Rohe, Joanne Campbell, Keren WuRohe, Sarah Lui, Susanna Rohe, and Josiah Rohe, as well as five siblings-in-law, two nieces, and four nephews. A celebration of life funeral service will be held at Clark Legacy Center, 601 E Brannon Rd, Nicholasville, KY on Sunday, February 9 from 4-5pm, with a light reception to follow until 7pm. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to GiveWell (https://www.givewell.org/), a charity organization that Tim believed in deeply.
