Joan Sargeant Melton, 82, former long time Miami, resident passed away Thursday, the 4th of August, 2016 at TideWell Hospice in Port Charlotte, FL. Born in Bronx, New York, July 1934 Joan moved with her family to Miami in 1948. She graduated from Jackson High School and continued her education at Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing receiving her RN degree. Joan married David ""Whitey"" Melton in February of 1956. This past February was their 60th Anniversary. Settling in Hialeah, FL, Joan and David had three children. Joan loved to shop and was an avid reader. She is survived by her husband David Melton; children, Margo (Bill Seiter) Melton of Royal Palm Beach, David (Elizabeth) Melton of South Port, Fl and Amber (Edward) Silva of North Port, FL; 5 grandchildren, Robert Melton, Yvonne (Justin) Purdie, Andrew (Donovan) Melton, Lauren Silva, and River Silva; 5 great grandchildren, Hannah Lawrence, Gatlin Melton, Laikin Melton, Barrett Purdie, and Skyln Melton; brother, John (Bonnie) Sargeant and sister, Barbara (Greg) Slaga, nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, August 13th at Farley Funeral Home in North Port, Florida. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to TideWell Hospice, Philanthropy Department, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
