Alfred Azzoni

Alfred Arthur Azzoni passed away on Friday, October 23rd in Venice, Florida at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet and their three children, Margaret, Michael and Kip. He is also survived by his sister, Marion O'Connor, of Princeton New Jersey. Following his enlistment in the US Marine Corp in 1943, where he served with Company B 5th Medical Battalion of the 5th Marine Division FMF on Iwo Jima, Alfred was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and a Presidential Citation Ribbon. Alfred returned home and graduated from College of Physicians and Surgeons Columbia University in New York City. Alfred was a dedicated physician and surgeon who practiced at the North Shore Medical Group in affiliation with Huntington Hospital in Long Island for 30 years. He retired to Manasota Key, in Englewood Florida and West Southport, Maine respectively in 1992. He will be deeply missed by his family (including his 6 grandchildren) and his entire community of friends. A service will be held on Manasota Key to honor Alfred's life of service and commitment. Alfred's passion for medicine and his deep devotion to service in honor of his country were ever present in him. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a charitable fund that will honor his commitment to the mental health and wellbeing of the military personnel who have served this country.
