Norval S. King, age 84, of North Port, Florida and formerly of Lamar, Colorado, passed away on April 19, 2015. He was born on December 7, 1930 in Arapaho, Oklahoma and was the youngest of eleven children. He taught faithfully for 33 years at Lincoln Elementary School in Lamar, Colorado until his retirement in 1990. Norval moved to North Port in 2000 and was a member of the First Church of God South Venice. He taught Sunday school, led worship and sang in the church choir. He also enjoyed singing in church with his wife and later with his children and family. Norval was a lifetime member of Gideons International and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid pilot, loved people and everyone he met became a friend. Norval is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth; a son, Grant (Elaine) King of Alexandria, Lousiana; two daughters, Celia Snodgrass of North Port, Florida and Phyllis (Mike) Archer of Sublette, Kansas; six grandchildren, Celeste (Eric) Swope, Jeff Rix, Eric (Colleen) King, Daniel (Jolie) King, Luie (Dell) Orozco, Felip Orozco. He also leaves behind sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A visitation will be held at First Church of God South Venice on Thursday, April 23, 2015 from 10:00AM-11:00AM with a Celebration of Life Service to immediately follow. Burial with military honors will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Gideons International, Lemon Bay Camp, P.O. Box 1297, Venice, Florida 34284-1297 or to First Church of God South Venice, c/o Building Fund, 351 Orange Road, Venice, Florida 34293. Farley Funeral Home in Venice, Florida is handling the arrangements.
