Lida Zaratin, 84, formerly of Venice, Florida, died peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2015 from medical complications at West Palm Hospital. She was born in Bisceglie, Italy as Lida Porcelli. The family migrated to Milan when she was still a child where she resided till the age of 18. Immigrated with her parents to the United States through Ellis Island in 1949 and soon became a US Citizen. She met her husband Giuliano Zaratin (who is now deceased) in 1950, married in 1951 bearing the first of two surviving children, Robert and 9 years later, Giulio. The family lived in the Bronx where Lida also worked at General Motors as a Data Entry Operator. Lida moved in 1966 to Bardonia (Rockland County) New York, where the family focused on raising their children and socializing with family, friends, and neighbors. During this period she worked for such firms as the State of New York and Lenn & Fink. Upon retirement moved to Venice Florida living first in a newly built home in Gulf View Estates and after being widowed, in the Jacaranda Villas. Throughout her years in Venice she assisted as Italian teacher at the Epiphany Cathedral and was very well known for her delicious meatballs requested at various events. Lida is survived by her daughter-in-laws JoAnn and Donna, grandchildren James, Abigail, and Zachary, sister and brother-in-law Ann and Jim Baker, brother and sister-in-law Frank and Ida Porcelli, and brother-in-law Franco Lattuada as well as 13 nephews and nieces both in the USA as well as Italy. Family and friends are invited to visit Monday, April 20, 2015 at Farley Funeral Home at 265 South Nokomis Avenue in Venice Florida between the hours of 2-5 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Venice with entombment to follow at Venice Memorial Gardens. Farley Funeral Home in Venice is handling the arrangements.
