Ezio Francis Nurisio, a veteran of the Vietnam War and resident of Ione, passed away on September 5, 2024. Ezio was born on February 8, 1947, to Luis and Zoe (Leggero) Nurisio in South San Francisco and graduated from South San Francisco High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1966. He served in the 8th Army, Battery E 4-44th Artillery, assigned to Nike Missile defenses in Korea before being honorably discharged in 1969. Ezio then volunteered for the National Guard Nike Missile Base in San Bruno, CA from 1972 to 1974.

After leaving military service, Ezio pursued a career in the U.S. Postal Service and became the Postmaster of the cities of Half Moon Bay, San Carlos, Redwood City and finally South San Francisco where he retired as Postmaster in 2003.

Soon after Ezio volunteered in a major restoration project at the Nike Missile Site SF-88L at Fort Barry in the Marin Headlands. Once restored, he conducted tours for the public. Tours and the results of the restoration are enjoyed by many visitors today.

Ezio was an avid golfer and enjoyed recreational shooting. Known as a “Renaissance Man,” many people relied on him for his vast knowledge or ability to fix just about anything. He was proud of his Italian heritage and very proud of his family.

Ezio is survived by his wife of 56 years Judy; his daughter Maria; sons Robert and Nicholas; and four grandchildren, Mitchell, Morgan, Madison and Ronin.

His family has organized a military service at Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson, CA on Thursday September 12, 2024, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars at P.O. Box 457, Ione CA 95640.
