Frank Joseph Hann
March 10, 1910 — August 23, 2012
Frank Joseph Hann, born in Hoquiam, WA on March 10, 1910, passed away at his home in Sutter Creek on August 23, 2012 with his children at his side, at the age of 102. The only child of Frank P. and Frances E. (Barnes) Hann, the family moved around the country during his childhood, including New Jersey, Los Angeles and Hayward, where he graduated from high school in January, 1928. Although he wanted to become an architect, family circumstances and then the depression prevented him from fulfilling his ambition.
He went to work for the Bank of Italy before it became Bank of America only two weeks before the stock market crash of 1929. Through night courses he obtained the Standard Certificate from the American Institute of Banking. He became a loan officer and did bookkeeping work on the side. On January 22, 1937, he married Laska Herman in Martinez, CA.
Encouraged by a former co-worker, he left B of A in 1947 to join the Placer County Bank in Auburn. It was one of several independent banks he was to work for as he had no love for chain banks. He could best be described as a "country banker", (one that didn't play golf)! In 1960 he moved to Sutter Creek to work for the original Bank of Amador County before it became Wells Fargo, retiring in 1975 as an assistant vice president.
Frank is survived by his daughter, Anita Storrs of Auburn; son, Robert Hann of Sutter Creek; niece, Nancy Ruzicka, and nephew, Bill Ernest. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laska, in 2011.
During much of his adult life he was involved in many organizations, both professional and civic, including NABAC, CBA, the Red Cross, church committees, the Sutter Creek Planning Commission and Jackson Kiwanis Club. He was "County Key" Agricultural Banker for 4H work in Placer-Nevada and Amador counties. Although he enjoyed travel, he had little time for anything but week-end trips until his last working years and retirement. Much of his spare time was spent maintaining his home and yard, but he enjoyed going to events such as Music Circus, Lawrence Welk at Tahoe and the Strauss Festival in Elk Grove.
Our heartfelt thanks to Gracy, Launa, Vanessa, Angel and Tracy who took great care of our dad the last several years, for their devotion, genuine love and support. We would like to acknowledge the invaluable support and services provided by Hospice of Amador and Calaveras Counties.
Friends are invited to attend a funeral service Friday, August 31, 2012, 10:00 AM at the Sutter Creek United Methodist Church in Sutter Creek. Interment will be at Sutter Creek City Cemetery in Sutter Creek. Memorial contributions may be made to Sutter Creek United Methodist Church, P.O.
