John Terry Owensby

John Terry Owensby passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at his home in Sacramento at the age of 58. He was born in Kings Mountain, NC on February 20, 1955 to Earnest and Grace (Edge) Owensby. John was raised in Mt Lincolnton, NC and graduated from high school in 1973. He served in the U.S. Army and in the early 1980's moved to California. John was an accomplished photographer; he enjoyed shooting special events and weddings. John had a unique eye and an ability to capture the moment getting pictures professionals would envy. He was truly a jack of all trades. John worked as a DJ in Monterey for several years. He enjoyed talking about his favorite music from the 60's and 70's and he had a passion for dancing. John was a bartender and manager at the Monterey Presidio. A hobby that turned into a ten year career was his interest in stained glass. John was a great mechanic; enjoying taking things apart and putting them back together, always striving for perfection. He was an emergency medical technician and a licensed minister. He was a voracious reader, very intelligent, humorous, and a great visualizer. He could take a room a part, reorganize it, and make it more functional. His past time was spent cooking and baking. John enjoyed baking cakes for parties and weddings. John enjoyed searching for the best deals when grocery shopping and succeeded in finding the bargains. His clothes were meticulously chosen and he always looked like a million bucks. John traveled many times to New York, enjoying the theatre, and Broadway shows on his visits. Once he was comfortable with someone he was a true friend to them. John's wish for everyone was love, light and peace. He loved his family, never forgot a relative's birthday, and talked to his sister, Pat every Monday. He was very good to the Popovich family especially Mildred. John befriended so many people and enjoyed giving. John is survived by his sisters, Pat Highland and her husband, Bill of Evans, GA, Dottie Mazur and her husband, Jim of Lugoff, SC; brother, Michael Owensby of Lincolnton, NC; niece, Ernestine Gladden; many nieces, nephews and cousins he adored; and his two best friends, Paul Krumenacker and Milo Popovich; and many other wonderful friends. A private family memorial will be held. Inurnment will be private.
