Mary Shelton passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at her home in Sutter Creek at the age of 66. She was born April 20,1945 to Wendell and Katharine (Dolan) LaBelle in Marshfield, WI. Her family moved to Grenada Hills, California where she attended school. In the early 1970's Mary moved to Sutter Creek and worked for Jumbo Market as a manager of the bakery. Years later she opened the Amador Antique Emporium in Martell. She married Kent Shelton on February 14, 1975 in Jackson. Mary was an excellent seamstress, sewing personally for numerous Hollywood stars. She always stayed busy making something for someone including quilts for all her grandchildren. After moving north to Sutter Creek the Franciscan Nuns' called upon her to make all the nuns habits, which she continue to do for many years. She was known to make costumes for the Kennedy Mine Amphitheater. She was a genealogy enthusiast, enjoying bringing families together by helping them locate each other. Mary was irreplaceable and one of a kind!! She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Kent Shelton of Sutter Creek; daughters, Becky Hypolite and her husband, Dennis of Sacramento, Wendy Citron of Concord; step-children, Kent Shelton and his wife, Susan of Valley Springs, Tammy Wilson of Portland, OR; brothers, Thomas LaBelle of San Francisco, John LaBelle and his wife, Rose Marie of Sutter Creek; and 7 grandchildren. At the family's request there will be no services. Inurnment will be in the Garden of Golden Memories at Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amador and Calaveras Counties, P.O. Box 595, Jackson, CA 95642.
