Roger Henry Steuble
February 24, 1951 — February 4, 2016
Roger Henry Steuble 2/24/51 - 2/4/16
Our Dad was born Roger Henry Steuble in Hanford, CA . He grew up in a family with one brother, Mom and Dad, and a succession of dogs.
His "need for speed" started as a child as he was a champion quarter midget car racer.
The Steuble's moved several times north and ended up in the Sacramento Area. Roger graduated from San Juan High School in 1969. He went to college and graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. He went to Medical School at UCLA and lived mostly in Santa Monica. It was during those years that his first two children were born: Laura Elizabeth and Brian Christopher.
Roger had dreamed of flying since he was a little boy and was in the Civil Air Patrol growing up. When he had the opportunity he decided to join the Navy. He was commissioned as an officer in the Medical Corp and accepted to the Flight Surgeon Program in Pensacola Florida. Following he was stationed in El Toro, CA as a Flight Surgeon. He had the opportunity to go on a flight off an aircraft carrier and do a carrier landing which were highlights for him.
It was there he met Barbara. He discharged from the Navy to start private practice and driving south out of Sacramento led him to Jackson. He and Barbara were married when he first went to Jackson. He enjoyed a successful practice of Family Medicine for almost 25 years and considered it a privilege to serve the people of Amador County.
As a civilian, he found he still loved flying and found an airplane he wanted. However he had to build it. With the help of two good friends, he built a high performance beautiful airplane which he flew for over 10 years. He was recalled to active duty in the Navy for Operation Desert Shield, and he had the honor of serving the country during war in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. When he returned the town welcomed him as a hero and 9 months later Bradley was born.
Roger's three children are a great source of pride to him. They all three have graduated from college and are well on their way. They each have special memories of their father which include special bike rides, airplane trips, vacations to Hawaii, watching movies… He was sometimes tough, but they never questioned his love for them or how important they were in his life. With his busy schedule he always had time for Laura, Brian, and Brad.
He was the volunteer physician on Argonauts' football team when Brad played as well as basketball, and he organized sports physicals every year. He never missed an Argonaut game.
Everyone who knows Roger knows his "need for speed". He had a fast airplane, a fast car, and when he could swing it he had a fast motorcycle, and then a fast Corvette. Even Roger's passion of cycling had to be fast. He loved his bicycle and in fact was warming up for a bike race when he had the stroke.
Roger was very active in the community: Being active in the Italian Society, the Lion's Club, the Sutter Amador Hospital Medical Staff, and Community Church of Pine Grove.
He was a strong presence in the family; someone who was depended on to take care of the family. He would take care of everything. He was loved immensely and will be missed every day.
There will be a Memorial Service at Community Church of Pine Grove, 14045 Ponderosa Way, Pine Grove, CA 95665, on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at 1:00 P.M.
