March 14, 1933 — June 9, 2018
On Saurday, June 9, 2018 Ron Galligan passed away in Jackson, California at the age of 85. Ron was born in San Francisco on March 14, 1933 and moved to San Jose as a young boy.
In 1955, Ron and Sharon were married and had 3 children, Mark, Lori and Shannon. In 1955, Ron was drafted into the US Navy and served two years on a destroyer in Hawaii, Japan and Pacific Islands. After Ron’s tour of duty, he resumed working at Pacific Telephone as a construction/repair technician and later as a supervisor for 32 years. Later Ron moved to Los Gatos where he and Sharon lived for 30 years. In 1988, they moved to Jackson and have lived here for 30 years.
Ron was involved in numerous organizations and clubs throughout his life. He worked at a Fine Arts Foundry in San Jose creating bronze castings. He was a member of the National Wood Carvers Association and enjoyed creating art out of wood.
Ron was always interested in classic cars and was a member of the Mother Lode Cruisers. He enjoyed car shows and won numerous awards. Over the years he collected and restored cars including, a 1929 Model A, 1934 Ford Victoria and a 1950 Oldsmobile 88 Rocket Coupe.
Ron was a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West, Excelsior Parlor #31. He was a member of the Italian Benevolent Society in Sutter Creek and was a trustee for one year. He also was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation in Sutter Creek and was a trustee.
Ron always enjoyed being with family and friends in many activities. Ron was loved by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Bart and Ruth Galligan, and by his sister, Patricia Vargas.
Ron is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sharon, their three children: Mark (Elizabeth), Lori Hasty (Matt) and Shannon Stewart. He has six grandchildren: Shauna, Katlin, Gregg, Will, Jackson and Colton.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church at 10:00 am. Immediately following the visitation, a Mass will be held at 11:00 am. A reception will be held after the mass at the Italian Benevolent Society at 581 CA-49, Sutter Creek. If you will be attending the reception, please RSVP to Mark or Elizabeth at 209-296-8296.
