Louis Merrill Beem
April 20, 1929 — February 15, 2018
Louis Merrill Beem, Jr, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 15th in Dunedin.
Merrill was born on April 20, 1929, in Columbus, OH to Pauline and Louis Merrill Beem, Sr. He met the love of his life, Marjorie Renick Beem, in high school. They both graduated from Ohio State University, with Merrill attending and graduating from Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Merrill was active in the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, was an avid golfer for OSU and enjoyed playing piano with a band for social events. He and Marjorie were married on August 3, 1952, in Columbus, OH. Merrill and his father started Beam Lamp Corp, in Tarpon Springs, FL. in the early 50’s. He distributed lightbulbs throughout the state of FL for over 55 years. His son Chip carries on the tradition today. Golf and tennis were passions that he shared with family and friends. Merrill enjoyed the outdoors, and treated his family to memorable trips across the United States each summer. Merrill’s most important influence to those who knew him well was his resiliency, positive attitude and great sense of humor, all characteristics that were unwavering throughout his life and endeared him to many.
Merrill is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, and is survived by his three children Melanie Beem Dunn and her husband, Robert Dunn, of Morganton, NC, Louis Merrill Beem III (Chip) and his bride, Robbin Beem, of Palm Harbor, FL, and Melissa Beem and Michael Schroder of Palm Harbor, FL.
The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
David C. Gross Funeral Homes, Belcher Road Chapel in Clearwater is serving the family.
