Sidney Wexler

Sidney Wexler 87, of Oldsmar, FL passed away May 18, 2008. The son of the late Harry and Catherine Wexler, Sidney was born in Erie, PA in 1921. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II earning the bronze star, 75th Infantry Div. In Erie, Sidney owned the Wexler Insurance Agency for 30 years and served as president of the B'rith Shalom Synagogue and the Jewish Community Foundation. His generosity was demonstrated in many ways including his philanthropic efforts with Tampa Bay Harvest. Sidney was also a member of the East Lake Woodlands Country Club. He will be fondly remembered for his love of family and friends and generous contributions to his country and Jewish community. This kind and gentle man is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Estelle Weiss Wexler; two daughters: Carol Wexler Ross and Laurie Wexler; two sons and daughters-in-law: Howard and Sharon Wexler, and Drs. Donald and Miriam Wexler; six grandchildren: Amy, Dana, Julie, Emily, Rachel and Brian; and many close nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Temple Ahavat Shalom (1575 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor, FL) on Wed, May 21 at 11am. Burial will follow in Curlew Hills. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sidney's honor can be made to the Temple Ahavat Shalom or the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber National Institute (100 Barber Place, Erie, PA 16507). David C.
