Joshua James Mcnamara
December 12, 1983 — July 8, 2012
July 8th was a beautiful Sunday in the 80's. Joshua James McNamara, 28 went tubing with some friends in Orting to pass the day away. He was anxious and nervous, he was days away from making huge changes in his life. He was moving North, He was coming home...
Things went terribly wrong. God had another plan. He took our boy home to Heaven that hot summer day...
Josh was last seen near the McMillian Bridge on the Puyalllup River in the late afternoon. Search and Rescue looked for hours, could not find him and called off the search till morning. Again, Search and Rescue searched for Josh all the next day unable to find him. The river was so high and so fast, and cold, it was unsafe for them to continue. They informed us it could be weeks before they would be out again to search.
For 40 days and 40 nights his family and friends never gave up hope that they could find him. They could not rest until Josh was brought home. On Sat. August 18th, day 41, a fisherman on the Puyallup River discovered Josh's body by 70th St E and Levee Rd in Fife.
On that day it was confirmed, we lost a Father, a Son, a Brother, an Uncle, a Nephew, a Friend, and a Companion. A light in so many of our lives. He was a prankster, adventurer, and daredevil, with a love for the outdoors, and everything fast, loud, and exciting that went with it. He also was a very competent mechanic with an unending desire to figure out "what makes it tick?" Tim the Tool Man from Tool Time and McGuyver were some of his favorite shows growing up. He made a hobby and a career out of being a mechanic and fixing most anything, from your toaster oven to an excavator. He was a jack of all trades. He loved big rigs, 4x4's, trucks, quads, dirt bikes and the dunes at Moses and Coos Bay. Josh recently became a father to a beautiful little girl, Chevell, age 2. Never before has Josh been so serious to improve his life as he was for his daughter. He was a doting, adoring father, she was the apple of his eye!
He leaves behind his daughter Chevell, and her mother, Debra Steele from Buckley. His parents, Michael McNamara of California and Shirley McNamara of Everett. Sister Bridgette Eulberg, Brother Jonathan McNamara, and Sister Jourdanne Hicks, StepFather, StepMother, Step Brothers and Sisters, Father in Law, Mother in Law, Brothers and Sisters in Law, numerous Uncles, Aunts, Nephews, Neices, Cousins, and the countless number of friends and parental figures that molded Josh into who he was. After trying everything from cooking to landscaping, he worked for R/S Construction of Covington as a diesel mechanic and driver for several years, as well as at Island Transit in Coupeville, as a bus mechanic.
On behalf of the Josh's family we would like to take an opportunity to express our deepest appreciation to all those involved.
