Elizabeth M. Allen

Elizabeth M. Allen (Merryman), 88, passed away on June 1, 2019 at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte, Florida. She was born at home on June 30, 1930 in Ocean City, New Jersey to Earl E. Merryman and Hester Alice Merryman (Beatty). Elizabeth, also called Betty, grew up in Ocean City, New Jersey. She graduated from Ocean City High School in 1948. After high school she worked as a clerical assistant for a real estate company. She held many jobs; having worked for the Record Breeze newspaper and even drove a school bus. But she always said that her favorite job was the one she held at home caring for her family. Betty married Chester M. Allen on May 2,1953 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They were happily married for 58 years. Betty was a member of the Eastern Star, and attended Ocean City Baptist Church and Berlin Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, roller-skating and bicycling. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Allen; her parents, Earl and Hester Merryman; her sister, Hester Merryman (Shields); sister-in-law Gladys Merryman (Adams); and brothers, Edwin and Clarence Merryman. Betty is survived by her brother, Robert Merryman of Wildwood; her sister Mildred Hansen of Michigan; her daughter, Beth Ann Morrison (John); her sons Daniel (Stacy); Kenneth, Steven (Shannon) and David; and her grandchildren Jonathan and Justin Nichols, Connor and Cameron Allen, Daniel Allen Jr., Rachael and Lindsay Allen and Kelsey Morrison and many beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Englewood Community Funeral Home on June 6, 2019 from 3-5 p.m. The service will be private per the family's wishes. Cremation will follow.
