William D. Jack

February 23, 1942 — June 1, 2012

William D. Jack, 70, of Boca Grande, FL and Fairport, NY passed away at home on June 1 after a long illness. Born in Rochester, NY, Bill was the son of Douglas and Patricia Frye Jack. He attended McQuaid Jesuit High School and St. Michael's College in Vermont, and went on to earn his Master of Market Research from New York University. Mr. Jack was employed by Eastman Kodak Company from 1965 until his retirement in 1997. Bill held several positions with Kodak: Director of Market Research for Asia, Africa and the Middle East; General Manager of Kodak New Zealand; Marketing Director for Kodak Nagase KK in Japan; and Executive Vice President of Kodak Japan. Bill left Kodak as VP for Electronics Products in Kodak's Consumer Markets Division where his team introduced what became known as the Kodak Picture Maker System for retail stores. In retirement, Bill served on the Board of Directors of Quad A for Kids, an organization that works to enrich the lives of disadvantaged youth. From 1999 until 2012, Bill also served on the Board of the Boca Bay Beach View Homeowners' Association in Florida, and was a member of the Boca Bay Pass Club, the Lemon Bay Golf Club, and the Boca Grande Duplicate Bridge Club. He enjoyed tennis and golf, and in 2011 he celebrated his first hole-in-one while playing his last round at the Lemon Bay Golf Club. Bill was always game for an adventure, and his curiosity about people and cultures led him to travel the world. As a teenager, Bill discovered the allure of boating and learned to water ski and sail. He rarely missed a chance to be on the water, whether it was at his home on Conesus Lake, at the beach of Lake Ontario or sailing on the Gulf of Mexico. Bill made several sailing trips to Mexico, Central America, and Toronto with friends and family, and also enjoyed snow skiing, bicycling and rollerblading. Bill was an inspired conversationalist and engaging storyteller who could speak with knowledge and authority on a range of subjects, including politics and finance. He embraced life with a fearlessly positive outlook, and never stopped trying to spread the optimism he felt. Bill will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to know him. He leaves his cherished wife of 42 years, Judith (Cummings) and their son W. Douglas (fiancée Kait Schuh). He also leaves two sisters, Judy Cassetti (Joseph, deceased) of Austin, TX, and Sally Brust (Karl) of Brighton, NY. Bill is also survived by his mother-in-law, Janice (Harvey - deceased) Cummings of Albion, NY. He is further survived by nieces and nephews Tracy Whelpley (David Matteson), Todd (Kathy) Whelpley, Mark (Janell) Whelpley, and Sara Cassetti (Roshy); brothers-in-law: Jim (Sherry) Cummings, Gene (Lynn) Cummings; sisters-in-law: Susan Cumming Robinson, Patricia Cummings-Witter (Scott Witter), and Nancy Cummings. Gifts in Mr. Jack's memory may be made to Quad A for Kids, Rochester Area Community Foundation, 500 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607; Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908; or a charity of your choice.
