Peter P. Angelou Jr.
July 15, 1930 — May 8, 2025
Peter P. Angelou, Jr. (age 94) of North Port, FL, proud veteran and loving husband and father, died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on May 8, 2025 while receiving compassionate care from Tidewell Hospice for cancer. Peter, son of Peter Sr. and Agnes, was born in Jersey City, NJ and worked and raised his family in NJ. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Theresa Plaskon-Angelou; three children: Peter III (Sharon), James (Carol), & Susan Esbensen (Glenn); two grandchildren (Haley & Ethan) and two step-children: Elizabeth Cosentino (James) and Robert Plaskon (Karen). He had also resided in Stroudsburg and Bethlehem, PA, Warwick, NY, & spent his last six years in North Port, FL. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the NJ Army Reserves and being a pilot, had a passion for flying and also Civil War history & memorabilia. He had a keen eye for politics and enjoyed lively discussions of current events. He was an avid supporter of many charities for disabled veterans. He and Theresa loved cruising together and were blessed to have been able to travel extensively during their retirements. Peter was baptized in the Greek Orthodox religion and converted to Roman Catholicism after he married Theresa. He enjoyed going to Mass and his faith was a source of strength and comfort during his transition, for he knew his life would be changed for the better, not ended. Peter will be deeply missed in this life. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 21 at 10am at San Pedro Catholic Church in North Port. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. After the Mass, his life will be celebrated in a small, private gathering of family and close friends. Burial with military honors will be at 1:30pm the following day at Sarasota National Cemetery. Farley Funeral Home in North Port has been entrusted with Peter’s services. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to your favorite charity.
