Donald Madsen

Donald ""Don"" E. Madsen, of North Port, Florida, died of pneumonia and a heart attack on November 2, 2018, in Port Charlotte, Florida. He was 86. He was born to Harold and Esther (Flynn) Madsen on April 28, 1932 in Portland, Maine. Don graduated Valedictorian of Cheverus High School in Portland, ME in 1950. He served honorably in US Air Force 1952 - 1956 with tours in Germany and England. In 1960 Don obtained his BA from the School of Engineering at University of Maine, Orono Campus. In 1963 Don married Patricia Ann Langlais in Old Town, Maine moving to Washington D.C. - Annandale, Virginia to settle down to raise a family. In the late 1980's Don and Patricia moved to La Casa to make their home in North Port, Florida. Patricia preceded Don in death on June 13, 2007. He was also was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harold; and sister-in-law, Anne of Portland, Maine. Don had a special aunt Nellie Shea who spent her last years in his family home in Cape Elizabeth, ME. Don started corresponding with his high school sweetheart Catherine, who was living in Nalcrest, Florida. Don and Catherine E. Miller Sargent were married November 5, 2008, exactly 60 years from the day they were introduced at a high school dance. Survivors include his wife Catherine; daughter, Lynn Anne Madsen Lowe (Charles) of Palmetto, FL; sons, Ross Patrick Madsen of Sarasota, FL and Paul Andrew Madsen of Virginia; nephews, Harold, James, Michael, Carl Madsen and one niece, Carole Anne Smith. Survivors also include, stepdaughter Caren-Marie and Fred Michel and their two daughters, Rebecca and Roberta Michel of Westbrook, ME; step sisters and brothers, Dorothy and Maurice Lemelin of Scarborough, ME; Alice Marie Miller of Boondale, Queensland Australia and brothers, Tommy and Carmen Miller of Las Vegas, NV, Jimmy and Bridget Miller of Farmington, MI, Frank and Judy Miller of Gorham, ME and Davenport, FL, and their children and grandchildren. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 8th from 9-10:30 am at Farley Funeral Home, North Port Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 at San Pedro Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place at Venice memorial Gardens, Venice, FL. Mass cards for Don in lieu of flowers or Donations may be made to Alzheimer's, Parkinson, Diabetes, or the American Heart Association for RESEARCH only. Many thanks to his doctors and nurses of Bayshore Hospital, Family Home Health Services, and Hospice of Port Charlotte that were so involved and so caring. Also thank you to the staff and residents of North Port Pines for their help and support.
