Jason A. Wark, Dds
August 18, 1932 — December 17, 2017
Jason A. Wark, DDS, a long time resident of Charlotte, Vermont, passed away December 17th at the Venice Regional Hospital in Florida. Dr. Wark was a talented Orthodontist who practiced in Vermont for over 30 years with his brother Joeseph Wark, later joined by Drs. Angus and Librizzi. Jason's disarming charm and easy-going sense of humor served him well professionally and personally. He was the oldest child of Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Wark of Barre and Williamstown, Vermont. After a few false starts he graduated from the University of Vermont with a major in Geology. His graduate thesis on the clay known as kaolin of Vermont can be found in the UVM library. Later, he attended Temple Dental School, subsequently being accepted into the prestigious orthodontic program at Boston University. He received awards for his exceptional talents in prosthetic design and was a member of the Strang Tweed Society. In addition, he was an active member of the AAO, NESO and was a founding member and past president of the Vermont Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Wark became known among his colleagues for his innovative treatment of children with complex orthodontic issues. He was also an active member and past president of the Charlotte/Shelburne Rotary.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Donna McVetty Wark, RN. Together they travelled widely, gathering many close friends. Jason is survived by two children, Rachel Polgrean, DDS, MSD (John Polgrean Esq.) of Bedford, NH and Heather Wark MD (Winthrop Whitcomb MD) of Northampton, MA and five grandchildren; Brynn, Maela, Emma, Nicholas and Kallie. In retirement, his favorite hobbies were golf, reading and tending his precious Charlotte homestead. He created a wonderful park-like property, one enjoyed by neighbors, family and wildlife.
He was very proud of his daughters, five grandchildren and sons in law, enjoying their company a great deal. The photo albums are full of grandpa teaching his progeny to tend the land, the reward being an enormous bon fire and smores at the end of the season. As Jason was a passionate reader, donations may be made to the Charlotte Library, 115 Ferry Road, Charlotte, VT 05445.
