Joanne Mary Scannell
September 24, 1934 — June 30, 2025
Joanne (Sullivan) Scannell
Venice, FL —
Joanne (Sullivan) Scannell, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, in Venice, Florida. She was 90 years old.
Joanne was married for nearly 70 years to the love of her life and soulmate, Jerry Scannell. Their love story began in the sixth grade and became a lifelong bond — a true generational romance that inspired everyone who knew them.
Together, Joanne and Jerry raised five children — Deb, Jeb, Kevin, Tim, and Patty — and built a family that was always the center of Joanne’s world. She was a devoted and loving grandmother to fifteen grandchildren: Sarah, Andrew, Hannah, Gerry, Kyle, Michelle, Ryan, Alex, Taylor, Jack, Kev, Kelly, Danny, Nicholas, and Matthew. She also warmly welcomed her sons- and daughters-in-law: Marc, Tricia, Mary, Julie, and Scott, as well as grandchildren’s spouses: Andrew, Megan, Amanda, and Kellee. Joanne was overjoyed to become a great-grandmother to Saylor, Josie, Beau, Solomon, and Landry. She cherished every moment with her growing family. To Joanne, nothing mattered more than love, laughter, and togetherness. Family was everything.
Born in Boston, Joanne lived in many places across the country during her 27 moves with Jerry and their children. No matter where life took them, she created a warm and beautiful home filled with love, grace, and humor. Friends and family often described her as beautiful, classy, and effortlessly funny — someone who lit up a room and left a lasting impression.
Joanne’s presence, wisdom, smile, laugh and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
