Kathleen Patricia Grove

Kathleen Grove was born on March 17, 1947, and died peacefully on June 2, 2026. She was known to many as Kathy, but she especially loved being called Gigi. Gigi was a caring, persevering presence in the lives of all who knew her. Her warm smile and gentle humor brought light into every room. A strong and determined woman, she approached life as a “doer” rather than a procrastinator, using her sharp mind and steady problem‑solving skills to support the people she loved.

Kathy enjoyed a good game of cards, the beauty of a sunset—especially at the beach—and unhurried time with family and friends. Some of the things she loved were shrimp, ice cream, and a refreshing pina colada, and she treasured movie nights, walks on the beach and boating on Saratoga Lake. Gigi especially loved Clinton Beach in Connecticut and Manasota Beach in Florida, and she cherished vacations in Old Lyme Shores and cruises shared with her husband, sister, and brother‑in‑law.

Kathy’s compassion extended far beyond her immediate circle. She supported many causes close to her heart, including Tunnel to Towers, St. Jude’s, Doctors Without Borders, the American Heart Association, and the Cleveland Clinic. She drew inspiration from the natural world—the colors of green and blue, the ocean, and gardens in bloom. She found joy in thrifting, gardening, shopping thoughtfully for others, and gathering loved ones for celebrations.

Teaching was one of Gigi’s great callings. She taught at St. Madeleine Sophie School in Guilderland, New York, where she was a beloved teacher and was honored with a Teacher of the Year award. She was also an avid reader and a loyal friend, nurturing lifelong relationships through letters, calls, and visits. Through her example, she taught those around her to put others first, to persevere, to mark every milestone no matter how small, and to hold family at the center of life.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Carl Grove, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage; her sister, JoAnn Katsamas, and her family; her brother, William Gestal, and his family; and her daughters, Jennifer Dearing and Joanna Price, and their families. She remained deeply connected to her family throughout her life, sharing countless conversations, visits, and vacations together; their shared laughter, stories, and traditions were a steady source of joy for them all. She treasured her time with her six grandchildren, delighting in their personalities, accomplishments, and everyday moments. Gigi had a gift for making those she cared about feel deeply valued, welcomed, and cherished.

Her legacy is one of thoughtful kindness, inner strength, creative problem‑solving, and steadfast connection. She often reminded us, “We may be far away from each other, but we are all looking at the same moon together.” We will think of her whenever we watch a sunset, admire flowers in a garden, notice a butterfly passing by, or share a smile across a room.

We are planning a gathering in Connecticut in mid‑August and another in Florida in October to honor Kathy’s life and share memories together; details will be shared on her memorial page with family and friends at a later date.
